Shelton Benjamin, 42, a black WWE wrestler took to twitter on Wednesday to vent his frustrations upon finding a loaded pistol in the glove compartment of a vehicle he rented from Budget Car Rental. He tweeted "Thank you @Budget(LIT) for your great service of putting my reputation, freedom and quite possibly my life in jeopardy I've unknowingly been driving your car around the last 4 days with a F'N LOADED GUN in the Glove compartment!!" Benjamin explained he had been renting the vehicle over the weekend to travel to and from wrestling shows he was scheduled to perform in. He only realized the vehicle had a loaded weapon when he went to return the vehicle. The picture of the pistol he tweeted was of a Ruger pistol and a magazine which appears to have been stored in a black carry bag.

A Budget customer service representative had responded to his tweet and claimed they were turning the matter over to law enforcement. "Hi Shelton! We are truly sorry to hear about this unfortunate situation. We have turned this matter over to local law enforcement for an appropriate investigation. ~April" said the tweet. Benjamin's concerns may not have been unfounded. Studies have shown black drivers are more likely to be racially profiled by the police in the United States. Benjamin is a decorated amateur and professional wrestler. He is certified by the NCAA as a two-time All-American champion in collegiate wrestling. He studied at the University of Minnesota on a wrestling scholarship. After college, Benjamin signed a contract with WWE and made his first television debut in 2002. He was fired in 2010, but had become a three-time intercontinental champion, one-time United States champion and a two-time tag team champion. He returned in 2017 as part of its SmackDown Live program.
