This vision has come true but has left us with a congested road system, air pollution and many safety concerns. Now the new generation in the race for the autonomous car market, each competitor has their own vision and ambition to solve the 20th century problems while emerging the victor. In the new emerging trend, the vision of cars is reversed, less of a singular source of ownership and more of a piece of an ever evolving transit eco system. With new technology which has allowed car-sharing and ride-sharing services to flourish and has allowed new alternative modes of transportation to fill in the gaps which public transit lacks and has provided a gateway to what autonomous driving could look like.
