General Motors Co. has just made an undisclosed amount of strategic investment in Feezu, a Beijing-based self-service car rental start-up. Feezu allows their members to rent and return cars anywhere anytime without interacting with customer service staff. Users can use mobile apps to book rental cars, make payments and open the door thus eliminating all the interaction with service staff. The business model revolves around renting vehicles by the hour for commutes between transportation hubs as well as short-term rides. The main reason for the investment from GM is to expand their technology in the car rental industry. This will help their experiment with different car rental models, gain insight into China's rapidly changing market and better learn how people want to use transportation to get from point A to point B.
